ENVIROGRID® BASE STABILIZATION

EnviroGrid® is a revolutionary sustainable road construction technology that allows for the construction of roads over soft soils. EnviroGrid three-dimensional cells system helps prevent rutting and erosion by boosting weight bearing ability while also reducing infill material quantities required over time.

Engineered Solution for Stabilizing Soft Soils

EnviroGrid® geocell uses cellular confinement technology to expand the weight of the load laterally. Through confining infill within its interconnected cells, product testing has shown an over 50% reduction in sub-base pressure. Large-scale field testing of EnviroGrid® products were conducted by a third-party lab. Throughout a series of cyclical load plate tests under various pressures, EnviroGrid® has been tested to verify its true field performance in addition to its lab performance.

HOW IT WORKS

Straightforward Installation & Customization

Geocell installation is easy and doesn't require any special equipment. The manufacturer has made installing geocell even easier with their custom Enviroclip and Envirolock Connectors. Download the installation manual.

Cost effective and sustainable solution

In areas where infill material options are available, EnviroGrid® allows for the use of local material while also increasing the infill’s structural strength. Though confining the material, the amount of infill needed is reduced, while boosting the bearing capacity of the material that fills the cells.

Quality Manufacturing

The EnviroGrid cellular confinement system has been manufactured since 1990. Geo Products was licensed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and held the patent for this product until 2006. Geo Products manufacturing plant is located in Houston Texas USA and is ISO 9001:2015 and CE certified. In addition, Envirogrid is an approved material for multiple State Departments of Transportation within the United States

Proven Durability

Envirogrid's track record of high performance is unparalleled even in the toughest locations. Learn about some past projects and how you can expect to see similar results on your own project!

OIL & GAS HAUL ROAD - COLUMBIA

EnviroGrid® 6" Geocell was chosen as the best option for the access road, as it provided a cost-effective and sustainable solution for this area where limited infill material options were available. Due to the effect on the structural coefficient of sand, EnviroGrid® not only allowed for the use of locally available sands, but also increased the structural number of the sand through its confinement abilities, which in turn, cut down on the amount of aggregate needed. The road was graded and compacted in order to prepare the sub-grade. The EnviroGrid® panels were installed over a non-woven geotextile that provided a separation layer between the sub-grade and geocell. The cells were then filled with locally available sandy soils.

AIRPORT TAXIWAY - MYRTLE BEACH

Tight budgets and challenging soil conditions caused the engineers to consider options that would reduce the required thickness of materials. The original design called for 30 inches of aggregate subbase, 8 inches of cement stabilized base, capped with 24 inches of Portland cement concrete. The full system consisted of a non-woven geotextile fabric on top of the sub-grade, the EnviroGrid® layer, a cement stabilized base layer, and a Portland cement concrete cap. A 42% reduction in system depth from 62" to 36" was achieved by using the EnviroGrid® system. The sub-grade was prepared and materials were brought on site. A non-woven geotextile fabric was rolled out onto the prepared sub-grade. The EnviroGrid® was staked out with straight rebar and filled with sandy soil, leaving an overfill of 2" after compaction to achieve a depth of 10". A 4" drainage layer of #57 stone crushed aggregate was laid on top of the EnviroGrid®. The contractor came in with 8" cement-stabilized base and finished the system with 16" deep layer of Portland Cement Concrete. A bond breaking tack coat material was sprayed on between the two cement layers.

EQUIPMENT YARD - LOUISIANA

The project was installed completely by the owner of the rental equipment yard, showing the ease of installation of the EnviroGrid® system. The current sand layer was compacted as much as possible and a nonwoven geotextile was added as a separation layer along with a geogrid for extra reinforcement. EnviroGrid® with a cell depth of 6" was deployed, filled, and compacted with 8" of high-quality limestone. The entire project was completed in under 3 days with one man installing. Due to the remote area of this project, aggregate fill was at a cost of $50 per delivered ton. The alternative to EnviroGrid® was to use 18" of aggregate fill. The reduction from 18" to 8" of aggregate netted a savings of $50,000 to Dolphin Energy Equipment. They continue to run a high volume of heavy duty forklifts over this yard expansion, even during major rain events, with no rutting or disturbance of the surface.
